Addiction center are seeing an increase in people trying to stop smoking
Some addiction centers in Oregon sees increase in people looking to stop smoking.
Director Steven Fogelman, Kolpia Counseling Services, says he’s seen additional 30-percent of his clients say they want to quit over the last few months.
A tobacco ban took affect in Oregon 1st requires smokers to go at least 10 feet away from the door of any bar or restaurant if they want to light up. Earlier tin January the federal cigarettes tax jumped from 39-cents to more than a dollar a pack.
“I think it’s a great thing. I think if people are trying to become healthier and quit to smoke tobacco,” says Fogelman.
According to the American Cancer Society, about half of all smokers may die from a smoking related illness.
