Anti-smoking campaign
The nonprofit organization, CHIPS, plans to launch a week-long war on smoking next week, with visits to nearby schools.
The nonprofit organization, based at 2 Lincoln St. in Essex Junction, designed “Truth Week” to help prevent tobacco use, help smokers quit and expose tobacco companies’ tactics to lure new smokers.
CHIPS staff plan to visit Essex High School, Essex Middle School, Albert D. Lawton Intermediate School and Westford Elementary School beginning Monday. Staff will host activities and give away information centered around the dangers of smoking.
The organization will observe the nationally recognized Kick Butts Day on Wednesday, on which people who quit smoking celebrate and people who want to quit smoking are offered help.
