The Dubai Health Authority has launched cost-effective health packages at some of its primary healthcare centres. The three packages encourage women to go for health screenings and are suited for diabetics as well as those who wish to quit smoking.
“Given the prevalence of lifestyle diseases in the country, it is very important to encourage the public to come forward and get screened for a number of important tests to encourage preventative healthcare,” he said. However, the offer is a pilot-run in some PHCs and depending on the community response, the packages will be rolled out to other centres, as well. “We have introduced three healthcare packages — Women’s Health package, Gold Diabetes package and Quit Smoking package,” said Dr Maha Mohammed, Acting Head of Business Development and Projects office, PHC. “All the three healthcare packages are designed to meet the needs of our patients.
The women’s package is particularly important as many women focus on taking care of the family and often neglect themselves. The diabetes and quit smoking package are also important given the statistics of both diabetes and Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD) in the UAE.”
The women’s healthcare package is available at the Al Mankhool, Al Qusais and Nad Al Hammar centres. It includes two visits to the doctor and complete blood check up, pap smear tests and mammograms for women above the age of 40. The Gold Diabetic Package is available at Al Safa and Al Twar centre. It includes four visits to the doctor, two visits to the nurse for information and health education about diabetes and how to manage the disease.
The investigations include eye and dental check up in addition to blood and urine tests. The Quit Smoking Package is available at Al Twar centre and the centre accepts referral cases from any of the DHA’s 13 primary health care centres. It includes four visits to the doctor and investigations include lung function test, chest x-ray and The Smokerlyzer CO monitor test.
