Katherine Heigl hasn’t been shy about her desire to quit smoking – in fact, in almost every interview she’s done, she’s referred to how gross the habit is and how she’d like to quit. And in a new interview with Parade.com, she reveals one tactic that seems to be working: an electronic cigarette.
“Now I use an electronic cigarette. I know it’s ridiculous, but it’s helping me not to actually smoke real cigarettes. You feel like you are smoking, and you get to exhale but it’s just water vapor and not nicotine. I’ve been doing it for six months,” she said. “Smoking sucks!”
The actress goes on to preach about the unhealthiness of smoking and how she’ll address the issue with her own children. “The one thing I would say to my kid is, ‘It’s not just that it’s bad for you. Do you want to spend the rest of your life fighting a stupid addiction to a stupid thing that doesn’t even really give you a good buzz?” she said.
Heigl also discussed her electronic cigarette last week during an appearance on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman,” even pulling it out for a few puffs. She told Letterman she’d tried several other methods to quit smoking including the patch, nicotine gum and the medicine Chantex; only the electronic cigarette worked.
She also admitted how she started smoking. “You start once a week, maybe with cocktails with friends at a bar… And then you buy your first pack during a really stressful breakup and then it’s downhill from there,” Heigl told the late night host.
