No smoking in Croatia
Croatia is to enforce a smoking ban in most indoor public places from Wednesday. Anyone caught smoking in such locations after the ban goes into effect will face a maximum fine of 2100 euros.
The ban has already been in force in all hospitals and schools since September 2008. Cafes and restaurants were given a six-month grace period, but must now comply with the ruling. However, patrons will be permitted to smoke on bar or café terraces, or in special smoking areas inside such establishments.
Restaurant and café owners along the Croatian coast, which attracts around ten million tourists a year, say the ban will be bad for business.
