Quit smoking in Milton Keynes
A new support group’s starting to help people quit smoking in Milton Keynes.
It’s being held at The Irish Centre on Watling Street in Fenny Stratford. The first session’s today (Tuesday 1st September) and will run from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
NHS Milton Keynes – which is running the surgery – says anyone who goes along will get advice, support and motivation from a Stop Smoking Advisor.
It’s thought that around a quarter of people in Milton Keynes smoke. Although anyone can go along to the drop in group, it is hoped that it will attract members of the Irish community. Moira Ryan – a Stop Smoking Advisor – told Heart members of that community are more likely to smoke.
“In the Irish community the smoking prevalence is 30% in males and 26% in Irish females, which is quite a large percentage considering the national average is 21%”
NHS Milton Keynes claims smokers are four times more likely to stop smoking using its support and things like patches or gum to manage cravings.
Natalie Bell, the Stop Smoking Specialist Manager, said “Feedback from previous sessions has reported that attendees found them especially useful because they have a chance to speak to other people who are trying to quit – they know what they are going through and can support each other.”
If you are interested in joining the new group either drop in or call 01908 500 096.
