Stop smoking medication and mental health
Bupropion
Bupropion has been shown to be effective for people with depression and schizophrenia although it has been associated with increased anxiety and depression. It is contraindicated in bipolar disorder and should not be prescribed with drugs that increase risk of seizures, such as tricyclic antidepressants and some antipsychotics. Bupropion can also increase blood levels of citalopram, which should be avoided for two weeks after stopping. It is also contraindicated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
Varenicline
Varenicline is not contraindicated for use in mental health although the SPC advises particular care in patients with a previous history of psychiatric illness, and states that patients should be advised accordingly.
